Casting Call: The Taming of the Shrew

The Taming of the Shrew is a play by William Shakespeare that tells the story of a wealthy man named Baptista who has two daughters, Katherine and Bianca. Katherine is known for her sharp tongue and bad temper, while Bianca is sweet and gentle. Baptista refuses to allow Bianca to marry until Katherine is wed, so suitors begin to court Katherine. Petruchio, a wealthy man from Verona, decides to marry Katherine despite her reputation. He uses various tactics to "tame" her, including starving her and denying her sleep. Eventually, Katherine submits to Petruchio's will and they live happily ever after. At least that's how it usually is told.

In our version of Taming of the Shrew, set in the late 1990s, we explore the theme of materialism and vanity and how it affects people's lives. Katherine, our protagonist, is searching for something more meaningful than just material possessions. Through her journey, and relationship with Petruchio, we hope to shed light on the importance of finding true happiness and fulfillment in life.
